Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle (l-r) - PMS, Candy Venom, MA'DAMN
Amidst the overwhelming support I have received on Instagram, I have to say that I am not a pioneer. Hundreds of black women and other women of color express their frustrations on this topic every single day...Our voices are out there, but they are not being heard. That is, until today.

The Southern Poverty Law Center described the Aug. 11th and 12th events as one of “the largest hate-gathering[s] of its kind in decades in the United States.” I beg to differ. I offer that the largest hate-gathering we have seen in decades occurred on Nov. 8th 2016, when the combined efforts of white-supremacist groups and individuals, extremist-right voter suppression laws, and a contested election outcome, put over 60 million votes behind a president that ran on a platform of hatred, bigotry, racism, sexism, xenophobia, and extreme-nationalism.
This September, Essence kicked-off New York Fashion Week with the third annual Essence Street Style Block Party. The music, vendors and food were amazing, but the fashionistas took it to another level. As a plus size blogger, my attention was drawn to the curvy women who were serving style all up and through DUMBO Brooklyn. Despite the sweltering heat and massive crowds, I found some gorgeous curvy ladies who were styling for the gawds! I can't wait to go back next year, but until then, here are 10 curvy women who slayed the Essence Block Party. To check out who I wore to the block party, click HERE.
These are images from the Black Lives Matter protest July 9th 2016. People please listen, no matter what the headlines say today or tomorrow or next week, WE ARE NOT OVER IT! Please stay on this message, stay engaged, and stay active. These acts of racism are not isolated incidents, these murders of black men and women are not just personal undertakings of prejudice. Let us call it out for what it is! There is a system, there is a network, there are people with power and money organizing to destroy and diminish Black people in America. They are hurting us from every angle, and they will not stop until we are hopeless. They are taking our lives by killing us senselessly in the streets, they are taking our liberty by locking up our young men and women, they are taking our rights and blocking us from the ballot box with voter restriction laws (research your state). I repeat, THEY WILL NOT STOP. We must not stop either. Black people have endured hell on American soil, and we will continue to fight for generations to come, and because contrary to popular belief #BlackLivesMatter
The gorgeous lady below is Karen. She is the creator and host of Second Sundays. Second Sundays is one of the newest cultural dining experiences in DC. I attended the most recent event in May, and it was absolutely fantastic. Karen prepared a three course meal based on authentic Nigerian cuisine, to which she added other cultural influences. Karen also led a discussion about the cultural backgrounds of the dishes, and the conversation at the table was lively, entertaining and informative. Karen is the administrator of her blog NwaBekee, where she shares many delicious Nigerian recipes. Second Sundays is hosted regularly on the second Sunday of every month, and you can contact firstname.lastname@example.org to join the email list to receive announcements about the next cultural dining experience.
