NYFW Hit The Curves Running, And I'm Not Over It.

I was 26,000 feet in the air, still reeling from all the fabulous shows, presentations and parties I attended during New York Fashion Week, and making a note of all the exciting updates I need to share on my blog. The question was what to share first! As I thumbed through the images and footage from the week, I just knew I had to talk about plus size fashion first. New York Fashion Week (NYFW) hit the curves running, and I'm not over it.

This season, the fashion industry could no longer ignore curvy bodies even if it tried. From the runways to the streets, to the bloggers and fashionistas that descended on the city, plus size women made a groundbreaking statement at New York Fashion Week.

Below are 4 defining moments that made this season the season of curves.

1. BODY DIVERSITY ON THE RUNWAY.

The fashion industry has no justification for excluding plus size bodies on it's runways and in it's campaigns. With the rise of the plus size "fast fashion" market, talented plus size models represented around the country, and a growing community of plus size content creators and influencers, representation at New York Fashion Week is long overdue. This season, forward-thinking designers once again showcased beautiful bodies of different shapes and sizes on the runways. Many designers still refuse to include women over a size 2 in their shows, but for a community that is rarely represented in the industry, fashionistas alike celebrated the designers that are moving the industry forward.

2. THE CURVY CON.

The Curvy Con is an annual conference that brings together plus size brands, bloggers, and fashionistas. This year it took NYFW by storm!

If you haven't heard about The Curvy Con, where have you been?! LOL This year it was held during New York Fashion Week for the first time, and the bold move was an absolute success. Men and women from all over the country came to celebrate plus size fashion and have a damn good time. While at Curvy Con, I took over the Simple Be instagram account. It's one thing for a traditionally straight-size designer to feature plus size models, but to experience a fashion show with all plus size models and clothing was absolutely spectacular.  Addition Elle and Torrid debuted their latest collections on the main stage, showcasing models ranging from a size 10 and up.
